The Chronic Consumer

I buy things — all the time!

Free Music from Amazon.com

Have you ever noticed that Amazon doesn’t promote their promotions very well? For example, I was unaware that for every $25 in textbook purchases, you get a $3 credit towards MP3s from the Amazon music store.

Granted, $3 doesn’t get you very far, but it’s better than nothing, right?

Anyway, this credit was a pleasant surprise and now I’ve got a couple extra songs on my iPod just for making a purchase I intended on making regardless.

Break from Shopping

I think I’m going to take a bit of a break from shopping for the next couple of months. With the holidays coming up soon, it’s time to start saving money for presents for my friends and family. That means no more frivolous purchases for myself for a while.

I’ll still browse online and continue to add things to my Wish List, but I don’t plan on making any major purchases until probably January or February.

(Now let’s see if I can stick to this resolution!)

NFL Ladies Breast Cancer Awareness Pullover

womens pullover I haven’t purchased any NFL-related items in a long time, but am considering making an exception for this Cutter & Buck Breast Cancer Awareness Pullover.

The pullover is made of 100% polyester and features WeatherTec technology to help make it wind and water resistant. It also has an embroidered pink breast cancer awareness ribbon over the NFL team logo, and part of the proceeds go to support cancer research.

The pullover is on sale right now for $59.99 (down from the original price of $74.99), and there’s free shipping on all orders at NFL.com for the next three days.

The product is for a good cause and is on sale, so I might end up buying it!

GTA V posts $800 million in sales

gta v

The numbers are in, and it’s clear that the Grand Theft Auto franchise is as strong as ever. The video game’s fifth installment record more than $800 million in first day sales around the globe, which was a record for the series. Based on average prices, it’s estimated that around 14 million copies of the game were sold.

I’m not surprised by this at all. I don’t even like video games, but even I can see the appeal of these GTA titles. Sure, there’s gratuitous violence, but there’s also a story, characters, clear goals, etc. For mature audiences that can handle these themes, there’s certainly a great deal of entertainment value here.

$.69 songs on iTunes

I happened to be browsing through iTunes today when I noticed that they’re having a $.69 sale on “hit songs” from all the decades dating back to the ’50s. I don’t know how long the sale has been going on for or how long it will continue, but this is a pretty good chance to stock up on some old favorites. I just downloaded about 10 songs this way!

Burberry it is!

burberry trench Last month, I debated in this post whether to buy a Burberry trench coat or a LV Alma handbag. After researching both products and considering my own preferences and habits, I’ve decided to go with the Burberry.

I’m just not enough of a handbag person to warrant such an expensive purchase as the Alma would be for me.

A trench coat, on the other hand, can go with anything from jeans to slacks to skirts and evening wear. That makes it more versatile and therefore a better buy for me.

Now I just have to start saving my pennies!

New Kindle Paperwhite

new paperwhite I just pre-ordered the new Kindle Paperwhite from Amazon.com even though my old Paperwhite is less than a year old.

There are three reasons I did this. First, my old Paperwhite has a tiny crack on the screen that is a bit distracting (even though I can still read just fine). Second, the new Paperwhite has an awesome sounding feature called Vocabulary Builder that saves the words you look up in the dictionary to flashcards that you can review later. I’m ALWAYS looking for ways to improve my vocabulary, and this sounds absolutely perfect! And third, I had a $20 store credit, which brought the price down to $99. (Yes, it has “offers”, but I’ve learned to deal with the ads.)

Anyway, the new Paperwhites start shipping at the end of the month. I can’t wait to get mine!
