If you follow pro hockey at all, then you probably know about the “playoff beard” tradition among all the players. This simply means that guys don’t shave until their team is eliminated from the post-season. Sounds pretty straightforward — except for young baby-faced stars like Chicago’s Patrick Kane. The 21-year-old could barely sprout any facial hair last year, so this season he decided to sport a playoff mullet instead. The thing is trashy as hell, but his teammates love it. And now I just saw that Reebok is marketing a t-shirt with a picture of Kane’s godawful haircut. Sorry, but as much as I love Patrick, there’s no way in hell I’d ever wear a t-shirt like that!!
Since I’m currently dieting, I’ve been trying to keep my junk food purchases to a minimum. But when I saw this new limited edition Bananas Foster ice cream from Häagen-Dazs, I just had to get it. I love banana-flavored treats, so this was a no-brainer for me.
And the purchase definitely did not disappoint! Wow, this was terrific in every aspect, and tasted simply amazing. To be sure, I can’t actually compare it to real bananas foster because I’ve never had that dessert before, but this ice cream is to die for!
Ever wonder when is the best time to buy a treadmill? Or a lawn mower? Well, Consumer Reports has published a shopping calendar that helps people figure out what’s on sale when. This is a handy chart that will let you know if you should wait another month or two before making that next major purchase. I’ve bookmarked the calendar and will definitely refer to it whenever necessary!
And just in case you’re curious, May is the month to buy athletic apparel and shoes, cordless phones, camping and outdoor gear, lawn mowers, and small consumer electronics. Interesting!
Did you know that IKEA isn’t a Swedish word meaning “cheap furniture”, but is actually an abbreviation? It’s made up of founder Ingvar Kamprad’s initials, plus the initials of the place where he grew up, Elmtaryd, and the place where he currently resides, Agunnaryd. How about BVD underwear? Do you know what those initials stand for? Bradley, Voorhees, and Day, the names of the company’s founders.
I don’t know about you, but I think trivia like this is kind of interesting. Mental Floss recently posted an article explaining 16 such company abbreviations. Check it out!
I follow Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco on Twitter, and in the past couple days, he’s posted pictures of himself in a personalized Bengals bathrobe with “85″ and his name on the back. So many people asked Chad about the robe that he decided to give a shoutout to the site, which is SportRobe.com.
I took a look over there, and saw that they have a Blackhawks bathrobe that looks pretty sweet. The only problem is the thing costs $100 before you even personalize it! Add a name and number on the back, and the price jumps to $170. Add a name and number on the back, plus numbers on the arms, and the price jumps to $190.
Sorry, but that’s just crazy for a bathrobe!!! I’m usually all over apparel and other products that feature sports team logos, but there’s no way in hell I’m buying one of these!!!
I think I need another job or something! As you can probably tell from the lack of product reviews on this blog, I haven’t been able to shop much recently. It’s not because I can’t find stuff that I want to buy. Just take a look at my Wish List, and you’ll see that I add items to it almost daily. The fact of the matter is I don’t have much money to spend on extras, so I’ve been depriving myself!
Sometimes I think about getting a second job, but what with grad school and all, I’m not sure how feasible that would be. Plus, I would have to go through the whole interview and employment screening process, which is draining and time-consuming. Oh, well. I guess I’ll just have to ride out this downtime at work and hope for things to pick up in the future!
I know that proper nutrition is an important component to any weight-loss program, but I had no idea that there are specific vitamins that you can take for this sort of thing. I’m not talking about the kind of daily multivitamin that you’d ordinarily take to make sure you’re getting enough Vitamin C, calcium, and zinc. I’m talking about something like Animal Pak, which according to the product description, provides you with:
complex proteins, mega-vitamins, lyophilized amino acids and essential training factors (such as inosine, choline, PAK, Protogen A, PABA, and carnitine)
Wow, that sounds like some serious stuff! And Animal Pak has received some pretty rave reviews from users on practically each shopping site I’ve looked at.
I’m not a bodybuilder or anything, but this might be beneficial nonetheless. I do NOT eat a balanced diet, so nutritional supplements might make a difference for me.
I posted about this before, but I guess some readers must have missed it because I’m still getting emails asking me how to treat acne. This is not unusual, as I had been battling what I thought was an acne problem for several years and have fielded similar questions from readers during that time period.
But in this post from last month, I said that it turns out I had some kind of weird fungal infection instead, which is why none of the acne creams and cleansers worked for me. I used a prescription anti-fungal cream and got cleared up in a matter of weeks.
So again, let me just say for the record that I did NOT have an acne problem. I’m sorry for those of you that do, but there are plenty of links on my blog to other sites that carry extensive reviews of acne products, so please click those instead of sending emails to me!
