Perfect for Online Shopping
February 9th, 2009 by Chronic Consumer
I think online shopping is great for a number of reasons, but the best one of all has to be the privacy aspect. I know this is going to sound ridiculous coming from an adult in her mid-thirties, but I still get incredibly embarrassed and flustered when I have to buy certain personal items from the store — especially if there’s a snickering teen working the register or doing the bagging.
While I can handle buying tampons and condoms on my own, I draw the line at such things as vaginal dryness creams, over-the-counter yeast infection treatments, douches, home enema kits or anything of that sort. If I have a need for any of those things, you better believe I’ll be ordering it online!
Does that make me immature? Perhaps. But I so do not want to deal with this sort of thing at the drugstore or grocery store that I go to regularly!

Know what? I opened an upscale, fine lingerie store in my “small” town (25K) and people were afraid to be seen walking in or coming out! They’d sneak in if they got the courage, red-faced, and announce how much courage that took! Mind you, I didn’t carry any “trashy” or “questionable” items – no crotchless panties, no toys – just fun, sexy, romantic lingerie, as well as the basics – panties, bras, etc. The store closed within 9 months, having depleted $50K of my savings.
Now I have it online and it is, again, upscale. In fact, after doing extensive research, and targeting my niche which is the “highly moral” committed couple, I have created a lingerie site with items that are quite visually modestly displayed. Still, I can not seem to get the traffic and sales that I need.
My take? Modest people just seem to be afraid to be sexy with their spouses!
So, to answer your question…no, it doesn’t make you immature to feel uncomfortable having to purchase “questionable” items. Some things are just meant to be private, I suppose. It’s easy enough to hide douches, enemas, etc in with the rest of your groceries…but what about lingerie? I’ve provided a place where couples can comfortably shop for sexy and romantic play wear, romantic games, Kama Sutra, bras, panties…and am still having a hard time attracting the customer.
Am I just being plain dumb? Any advice?
Thanks!
