The Chronic Consumer

I buy things — all the time!

Rare Books

gatsby-first-ed I’m not much of an antiques person at all, and would usually prefer to have brand-new items than anything old, regardless of actual value. I know a lot of people would shudder at the mere thought of choosing a cheap faux wood end table over something handcrafted a hundred years ago, but what can I say? I like new things!

I do, however, make an exception when it comes to books. I would love nothing more than to start a collection of first editions from my favorite authors. It has long been a dream of mine to own a first edition of The Great Gatsby, a novel that I absolutely love. Too bad this particular title costs nearly $5,000 — even without the dust jacket!

Oh, well. Guess I should just stick to buying new paperbacks at $7 a pop!
