Diet and Exercise Aids

July 25th, 2007 by Chronic Consumer

My husband and I are both obsessed about losing weight, so our house is filled with various diet and exercise aids that are supposed to help us shed pounds as effortlessly as possible. We’ve got a bunch of exercise equipment purchased from late-night infomercials and a medicine chest full of diet pills, yet we’re still not as thin as we’d like to be.

So what we’ve decided to do is institute a moratorium on purchasing similar products for the time being. No more exercise equipment that will just gather dust in our garage. No more pills that will just sit in the cupboard for years. Instead, we’re going to try to lose weight by eating less and doing the types of exercises that don’t require special equipment (sit ups, push ups, walking, jogging, etc.).

Let’s see how well this new plan works out!

Good idea. I have gone through the various exercise equipment gathering dust in our house.. and it’s all gone now. My pact with myself, I can exercise without equipment, jogging is one of those things I can do, and the dogs love to come with.

Even if you don’t lose weight at least you will save money by not spending it on all the latest equipment. I myself know a guy that has a standing membership to Gold’s Gym for the last 4 years, always pays his dues and only went there the first time when he initially signed up for the membership.

I would love to go walking/jogging with my dog, but she’s soooo lazy and slow when we go outside that it’s not really exercise for me!

I also wanted to say that I’m not extremely overweight or anything like that. I’m 5’4″ and weigh about 125 right now. That might sound like the right weight for that height, but I have a very small frame, so I’m actually heavier than I should be — especially around the middle. I have a pronounced belly and my thighs have seen slimmer days.

I’m trying to get down to 115, which is still healthy for my height, but would (hopefully) involve getting rid of the problem areas I described above.
